It is THAT time of year again. The temps keep dropping, the leaves are starting to change, all the stores have pumpkins, orange, brown, and yellow décor out and you're starting to think about getting those adorable fall family photos done.
Here are some things to think about when it comes to scheduling your fall sessions.
1. They can be done when the trees are still green.
Why? I can add orange, brown, and yellow tones in photoshop and dull the browns to make it look like fall. Why book now, though? Fall is one of the busiest seasons for photographers so it's better to book early and guarantee your slot than book late and completely miss it. Fall is also the time of year when a lot of kids get sick so it can sometimes be difficult to schedule around the health of your little ones. In that case, the warmer weather seems to be when they tend not to be sick so don't be afraid to schedule it earlier in the season.
2. What to Wear
That's always a big question. Solid colors and neutral tones typically work best. I advise against wearing graphic shirts and neon colors. I personally love plaid in the fall but sometimes it's difficult to match the plaid with everyone else's color palette. You're welcome to wear layers or bring extra clothes to change into. It's always good to have a couple of different looks to go with. Sweaters, jeans, dresses, boots, usually look great!
3. Location
I love taking fall family photos at local parks. They usually have great natural landscapes. I can suggest parks in the area and I am open to traveling to a location. You're also welcome to suggest a property you like whether it's your backyard or just a place you've always loved. The photos below were taken at Kennesaw Mountain in Kennesaw, GA. This beautiful family rocked their shoot and I absolutely loved all the funny outtakes from this shoot so I included the funny photos below as well.
4. Time of Day
I love shooting either early in the morning or at golden hour which is right before sunset when the light is a bit softer and the shadows aren't as harsh. On rare occasions, the weather is okay in the middle of the day. I will typically book these for the evening hours around 5-6pm to try and get that gorgeous golden hour.
I hope this answers some questions about fall family photography! I am located in Duluth, GA and willing to travel to locations. I would love to create timeless photos for you and your beautiful families. Feel free to email me to inquire about a session. My email is info@yataphotography.com.
