Naomi is my sweet older sister. We're about a year and a half apart in age and we grew up watching Audrey Hepburn movies like Sabrina, Roman Holiday, Breakfast at Tiffany's, My Fair Lady, and Funny Face. She was always somewhat obsessed with Audrey Hepburn, wearing outfits similar to hers and doing her hair, makeup, and eyebrows like her.
She came to visit me a few weeks ago and I had purchased a Breakfast at Tiffany's jewelry, cigarette, and glove set and one night while she was here I asked if she would model for me for my maternity session ideas. I wanted to try out my lighting and see what results I could get and then I asked if she would do an Audrey Hepburn style shoot and she said "Okay!" and went right to work on her hair and makeup while I took a drill to my kitchen table to get it apart so that I could stick it in the studio.
She was wearing a cute black crop top and some jeans so in an effort to get her more into the Audrey outfit, I took a black piece of fabric and clamped it behind her to make a "dress" of sorts. We didn't exactly plan this out, haha.
This was at about 11pm at night and at about 12:30 I wrapped it up with a couple of shots of her and my little dog, Stella, who happened to stroll into the studio and want snuggles from her auntie. I used some gold and purple fabric that I wanted to use to make makeshift maternity dresses.
I didn't expect to love the photos as much as I do. They turned out to be real works of art. I even printed one out for my own fridge. It was so much fun to shoot. She definitely looks like Audrey Hepburn in them. I think sometimes when I just play around with lighting, etc the creative juices just start flowing.
Naomi is a hair stylist who specializes in rainbow colored hair. She owns a salon in Raleigh called Atlantis Hair Salon where she provides all kinds of different hair cutting, styling, and coloring options which I thought was kind of awesome because when she went to put her hair up for this session it took her just a couple of minutes.
