As a professional photographer, I have had the honor of working with a diverse range of clients, from newborns to families and couples to corporate clients and fashion brands. This past weekend, I had the pleasure of doing a cat photoshoot with Kaitlyn for her two incredibly adorable felines named Sabriel and Jerry. It was so much fun!
The photoshoot was held in my studio, where I had set up various props to capture Sabriel and Jerry's playful personalities and to hopefully get an artistic look for them. To begin with, I put them in a crate that I had zip tied a frame to with hopes to get them to walk out of the frame. I was hoping to get them to pose regally in the frame but they were both quite antsy and wanted to explore my studio instead. My top priority with them was to keep them calm and let them be cats but try to get them in front of my lighting so that I could get some great shots of them.
After the initial frame shots, we moved on to the different props that I had prepared. The first prop was a column and Jerry looked absolutely stunning as he posed on top of it. I had a strobe pointed right at his right side so I could capture him and get some gorgeous shadows in his fur and face. Kaitlyn stood by ready to help grab Jerry when he got fed up with the poses and she had a toy that she was trying to get him to play with.
We then moved on to a basket, which provided a cozy and comfortable spot for Jerry to curl up in but he wasn't too keen on the basket and lept out after just a few seconds. As he walked around the studio exploring the couch and find the window that he decided was his spot, I prepped some more props for them and got ready to get some shots of Sabriel.
Sabriel is notoriously shy so we got some treats ready to hopefully calm her down. I had some catnip, toys, and some cute glasses ready to go to see if she would be interested in the toys or catnip and to see if we could get her to wear the glasses. We tried the different props but Sabriel immediately lept off or out of all of them until I put her in the basket. She almost immediately hunkered down and decided she loved the basket! Kaitlyn and I were both so impressed by this. She was calm and comfortable in the basket so I put a pillow in it to make it more shallow so we could see Sabriel's cute face and giant green and yellow eyes and I put a black piece of fabric on top of that to get some contrast and make it look more professional.
It worked so well that we were able to capture Sabriel close up with glasses on and she was calm and barely moved in the basket. Then, we put Jerry beside her and got shots of both of them with and without glasses on. They were so, so, so very cute!!!
Overall, the cat photoshoot for Sabriel and Jerry was an absolute delight! Kaitlyn and I laughed our butts off at the two cats and we loved the photos I got of them. As a professional photographer, my primary goal is to capture my clients' unique personalities, and in this case, I was able to accomplish precisely that. I hope that these photos bring lots of awesome memories for Kaitlyn!
